There is officially a release date for the eagerly awaited movie Narivetta, which stars Tovino Thomas, Cheran, and Suraj Venjaramoodu in important parts. The movie’s creators revealed a trailer Thursday, announcing its May 16 release date. Abin Joseph wrote the screenplay, while Anuraj Manohar of Ishq fame is directing it. Narivetta, which is produced by Tippushan and Shiyas Hassan under the Indian Cinema Company brand, also features Rini Udayakumar, Aarya Salim, and Priyamvada Krishnan. Cheran, a Tamil actor and filmmaker, makes his Malayalam debut. Suraj, Cheran, and Tovino play police policemen.
A declaration at the beginning of the trailer makes it clear that it is devoted to “every battle for justice” and “every fight against injustice.” The film’s premise, which was inspired by actual events, centers on a confrontation between police and a tribal group in a hill outpost. The 2003 Muthanga incident, in which police opened fire on Adivasis (tribals) in Wayanad who were demonstrating over delayed land allocation, is vividly brought to memory by the trailer. In addition to causing deaths, it sparked debate about how the previous administration handled the matter and dealt with the tribesmen.
Tovino’s character development is also hinted at in the teaser; he portrays a police officer who is suspected of being responsible for the death of a tribal member. In the teaser, there is even a scene where Cheran’s character questions Tovino’s character about the accusations made against him.
