Rakesh Roshan Sets the Record Straight on Krrish 4 Budget and Rumored YRF Rift
Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has officially shut down rumors surrounding the highly anticipated superhero film Krrish 4. Recent reports claimed that lead star Hrithik Roshan demanded a staggering Rs 500 crore budget for the project, leading to a massive standoff with co-producers Yash Raj Films (YRF), who allegedly wanted to cap the budget at Rs 350 crore.
Speaking with Mid-Day, Rakesh Roshan dismissed the speculation entirely.
“It’s all nonsense that Hrithik has asked for a Rs 500 crore budget for top-tier VFX and world-class action… while YRF wants to cap costs at Rs 350 crore,” the filmmaker clarified. “Making a good film catering to a wide audience takes time. Even I have taken time for each of my Krrish offerings.”
The Real Reason Behind the Delay
Addressing fans’ impatience regarding the delay in production, the senior Roshan explained that the timeline has nothing to do with creative or financial friction. Instead, it comes down to Hrithik’s packed schedule with his own production house’s upcoming projects.
“Krrish (Hrithik) is on another planet, and we are all waiting for his dates,” Rakesh shared, reiterating that there are absolutely no differences between the team and YRF.
A New Era: Hrithik Roshan to Direct Krrish 4
Krrish 4 is shaping up to be a historic milestone for the franchise. Not only will Hrithik return as the iconic caped hero, but he is also officially stepping behind the camera to make his directorial debut.
In a previous chat with Variety, Rakesh Roshan expressed immense pride in passing the directorial torch to his son.
- Passing the Baton: “I’m passing the baton of the director of Krrish 4 to my son, Hrithik Roshan, who has lived, breathed, and dreamt about this franchise since its inception with me.”
- The Vision: “Hrithik has a clear and a very ambitious vision of taking Krrish’s journey forward with the audience for the next decades.”
Legacy of the Krrish Franchise
The beloved sci-fi and superhero franchise has been a cornerstone of Indian cinema for over two decades:
| Movie | Release Year | Plot Milestone |
| Koi… Mil Gaya | 2003 | Introduced Rohit Mehra and his life-changing bond with the alien, Jadoo. |
| Krrish | 2006 | Rohit’s son, Krishna, inherits extraordinary powers and becomes India’s premier superhero. |
| Krrish 3 | 2013 | Expanded the universe with massive mutant battles and high-stakes VFX action. |
With YRF backing the project and Hrithik taking full creative control as director, Krrish 4 promises to scale new heights—whenever the superhero’s calendar finally clears up.
