This was officially announced by Kamal Haasan himself at the NEXA SIIMA Awards 2025 event in Dubai. While specific details about the project are still under wraps, it is widely speculated that the film will be directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has previously directed Kamal Haasan in “Vikram” and Rajinikanth in “Coolie.”

The news has created a frenzy among fans who have been waiting for this collaboration for over four decades. Both actors, who started their careers under their mentor K. Balachander, have starred together in a number of films in the 1970s. Their last on-screen collaboration was the 1979 film “Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum.”
During the announcement, Kamal Haasan addressed the long-standing rumor of a rivalry between them, stating that they were never competitors and that the competition was created by the audience and media. He also mentioned that the reunion was something they had planned for a long time and they are happy that it is finally happening
