Soon, Sir Ridley Scott’s much awaited Gladiator sequel will hit theaters, and after an early viewing, the first reviews have already been released.
Gladiator II, which is set 20 years after the events of the original movie, which starred Russell Crowe as Maximus, follows Paul Mescal’s character Lucius as he grows up and assumes Maximus’s legacy.
Recently, a second teaser for the film was released, hinting at epic action scenes with man-eating monkeys and shark-infested waterways (scroll down to the trailer section to view it).

In addition, a hidden narrative point was disclosed in the video, where Mescal’s Lucius learns that Maximus is his father instead of Lucius Verus I, as he had been told.

With a $457 million global box office receipt, the original Gladiator received 11 Oscar nominations and won Best Picture and Best Actor (Crowe).
In the UK, Gladiator II will be released in theaters on November 22, 2024.

The sequel’s filming was completed in January 2024, having started in May 2023. The United Kingdom, Malta, and Morocco were the locations for the filming.
