The Silicon Valley of India turned into a sea of yellow flags, massive cut-outs, and deafening drumbeats on Thursday as Thalapathy Vijay’s final cinematic venture, Jana Nayagan, made a thunderous debut across the city.
Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by Bengaluru-based KVN Productions, the highly anticipated film saw fans gathering at single screens and multiplexes from as early as 4:00 AM to bid farewell to the actor-turned-politician.
1. Bengaluru Drives Pre-Sales as India’s Top Advance Booking Hub
While ticket prices in Tamil Nadu remained capped at state-regulated limits, Bengaluru emerged as the biggest single-city contributor to the film’s pre-sales. Crossing ₹6 crore in advance bookings alone, Bengaluru led the country’s pre-release sales, with recliners at premium multiplexes touching up to ₹2,500 per seat.
Single-screen venues across major Tamil-populated pockets—such as Dodda Banaswadi, Madiwala, and Kalasipalyam—saw tickets selling out within minutes of the booking portals going live.
2. Early Morning 6:00 AM FDFS Sparks Cross-Border Travel
Because early morning fan shows faced regulatory hurdles across parts of Tamil Nadu, thousands of fans traveled overnight across the border from Hosur, Vellore, and Krishnagiri to Bengaluru.
Single screens hosted 6:00 AM First Day First Shows (FDFS) to accommodate the massive influx of audience members eager to witness Vijay’s last screen appearance before his full-time commitment to public office.
3. Controversial Celebrations: Firecrackers Inside Packed Audis
The high energy inside cinema halls escalated into safety concerns at a prominent single screen in the city. Viral videos circulating on social media showed a group of fans lighting live firecrackers and sparklers inside a crowded auditorium right as Vijay’s sequence appeared on screen.
Safety Debate online: While fans on social media celebrated the atmosphere as “unmatched energy,” local authorities and moviegoers raised sharp concerns over safety protocols and venue security checks.
4. Stand-off with Local Exhibitors
The release was not without commercial drama. Select single-screen properties in the city—most notably Victory Cinema—reportedly opted out of screening the film on opening day due to unresolved disputes with the distributor over minimum guarantee terms and revenue-sharing splits.
The Verdict at the Counter
Despite a turbulent journey to the big screen—including certification delays and an online leak months prior—Jana Nayagan pulled in an estimated ₹78+ crore gross worldwide on Day 1.
With weekend shows remaining heavily booked across multiplexes in the city, Bengaluru continues to be one of the strongest strongholds for Vijay’s box-office swansong.
