Mufasa’s narrative is highlighted throughout the trailer, with particular attention paid to his bond with his brother Scar. Viewers witness Scar, who was originally known as Taka, and Mufasa traversing the Pride Lands as juvenile lions in this tale. Together, these orphans are pursuing their destinies. The plot centers on their quest for identification and belonging as they look for a place to call home.
Rafiki, the sage mandrill who mentored Simba and his father, tells the story of the movie. Rafiki provides fresh perspectives on Mufasa’s life and struggles as he recounts his voyage. Characters like Sarabi, a lioness who pursues her pride with Zazu—now voiced by Preston Nyman—are featured in the trailer.

Together, they lead Taka and Mufasa through a variety of environments as they search for a new kingdom.

The journey of Mufasa and Taka is replete with meetings with both allies and adversaries. Along with other animals, they form a group and confront a pride of ferocious lions lead by Kiros. Kiros is portrayed as a powerful, autocratic individual who opposes Mufasa’s authority. Mufasa becomes a leader when he finally stands up to confront Kiros.

The cast of the prequel is well-known. Blue Ivy Carter makes her debut as Kiara, and Beyoncé makes a comeback as Nala. In addition to Thandiwe Newton and Lennie James, Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen return as Timon and Pumbaa. On December 20, Mufasa: The Lion King will be released and screened in IMAX theaters.
